New Yuhas Stuff

Well this is actually about Grandpa's mom Julia. I have found Grandpa's uncle Charles Panyko in Warren Oh. He has some really good stuff on his 1930 Census and his WWI draft card. They both show his birth place as the same place.

Let me first say, I know this is him because Grandpa used to tell us how he went to his "aunt's" house in Warren Ohio to work for clothes. Julia has on her SSN as her maiden name as Paukovic. Grandpa said the aunt's name was "PANKO". He couldn't remember her name but said the uncle's name was "Charles". Well I figured Charles must be the brother of Julia. It actually ended up being "Panyko".

I found a Charles Panyko in Trumbell Ohio, close to Warren. In the 1930 Census it showed him at 41 years old and they had a little 12 yr old girl with them named Helen Yuhasz, listed on the census as Charles' niece. BINGO!!!

So anyway, he gave me a lot more clearer picture to cross the pond for Julia's side. They kept refering to a town called TEKEHAZA HUNGARY (Tekozo). After some research I come to find out that Tekehaza is not in Hungary, but in the Ukraine (See VINOGRADOV, UKRAINE). Supposedly Tekehaza is 7km outside of Vinogradov.

This still would have been in Hungarian rule up until WWI, thus the Tekehaza Hungary on all of Charles Panyko's papers. Pretty cool history about this region - always changing hands.

If anyone wants to take off with this one, this gives us the jump to Hungary (Ukraine). There is a 1869 Census in Hungary (Ukraine) that might be promising.

I think that John Yuhas is still from a place called "HYABATOR" Hungary, which is not too far off from where Julia's family is from. I will follow this lead and keep you posted.
